New pattern: the Jamie cardigan

If you don't know how to knit, you will love Jamie.

Jamie is the cardigan archetype. A boyfriend cut, an open front with a deep V-neckline and four or five buttons, two patch pockets and some gathered sleeves. No more, no less. You've probably already seen Jamie somewhere, on your grandpa or grandma, your hipster neighbor or maybe on you.... Yes! Isn't Jamie the cardigan you wear allllllllll the time, the one who needs a fresh new little brother?

Jamie is a BASIC. It will quickly become a staple in your wardrobe! (if it isn't already). 

The inspiration behind the pattern is Jamie the 1st: I had a cardigan that used to belong to my best friend's grandmother. I wore it until it looked like a floor cloth; until I was able to cut it into pieces and study its construction without feeling guilty about it.

With no surprise, the cardigan was composed of 6 different parts:

- One neckband

- One back bodice

- Two front bodices

- Two dropped sleeves

- I gave Jamie the 2nd two patch pockets as Jamie the 1st didn't have any.

When designing Jamie, I was particularly interested in creating an archetype of the "grandpa cardigan", without adding any details, just a simple loose fitting cardigan with pockets. Except for my personal touch; I cut the neckband in two to use less fabric.

The pattern Jamie is available in two different lengths. The view 1 hits at the hips while the view 2 at the waistline. The second one has slighlty smaller armcycles as well and will be perfect worn with a pair of high waisted jeans or dresses.

Jamie is rated as "Advanced beginner" due to the little number of pieces and the ease of assembly.  The patch pockets require precision and a little courage! However, no need to panic because you can just practice on scraps before sewing your "real cardigan".

Which fabric to use for Jamie?

A medium to heavy-weight knit such as boucle knit, sweat fabric, french terry. Jamie could look totally different depending on your fabric choices:

- A grey or navy sweat fabric for a classic and easy-to-wear cardigan.

- A stripy french terry for a "marinière" look.

- A thick and heavy-weight knit for a "my granny gave it to me" style.

- A boucle knit with flower print for a spring look.

I already want to make another Jamie cardigan… I’m thinking of a camel sweat fabric I have in my stack.
