How to make your pants longer with a hem facing

list In Tutorials On

You have just finished sewing a new pair of pants, luckily they fit great except the length.... don't worry, I have a tip to share with you to increase the leg lenght by a few centimeters. If you only need an extra inch or so of length, you can sew a hem facing.

For this tutorial, I'll use the Pio pants as an example. The original hem is a 4 cm double fold hem which means I can lengthen it about 3 cm.

Measure the bottom of the pants. Mesure the front and then mesure the back.

Cut 2 pieces corresponding to the front measurement + 2 cm seam allowance and a width of 4 or 5 cm.

Cut 2 pieces corresponding to the back measurement + 2 cm seam allowance and a width of 4 or 5 cm.

Sew one front with one back wrong sides together.

Pin the facing to the bottom of the pants, wrong sides together.

Sew with a 1 cm (or less if you want) seam allowance.

Serge the raw edge or for a nicer finish, fold the raw edge of the facing by one centimeter and press. Turn the facing to the wrong side of the pants, press well and sew.

Bonjour,
Merci pour ce tuto !!! Grâce à lui j’ai pu récupérer la longueur d’un pantalon qui a rétréci au lavage. Au top !!!
