New pattern: the Jean-Paul coveralls
If you like boilersuits coverall, you will love Jean-Paul!
It’s FINALLY here, the Jean-Paul coverall pattern! I’m so excited, I’ve been dreaming of the perfect workwear style coverall for a while now. They’re popping up everywhere from the fast fashion to luxury clothing brands and everywhere in between but I’m not gonna lie, this version is my favorite. It is a timeless garment and it can actually fit any kind of situation!
The collection was design around the theme "sew strong". The coverall Jean-Paul, the fisherman's smock James and the upcoming patterns (I'm still working on 2 other patterns) were drafted with the same common points; durability and comfort.
Ahhhh Jean-Paul... it was a tough one! I worked on this pattern for six months. I have been working a little bit differently for this pattern. I made some muslins that I sent to three of my pattern testers to get their feedbacks. After a lot of coming and going between the testers and I, I started working on the details like the collar, pockets, pleats etc... this was the beginning of a second long series of muslins ;-) At the end of this slow process, I send the pattern and instructions to my pattern tester team as usual, then made some alterations to the pattern according to their feedbacks and Jean-Paul is now ready to enter the pattern world!
MOODBOARD: I’ve got some inspiration to get your creativity flowing! My vision for the Jean-Paul was to create a coverall wearable on a daily basis that has bold details and a workwear vibe. If you want to keep this "I get the shit done" look with you Jean-Paul, stick to the classics and you can't ever go wrong! Denim and military green are the bests! I think the the following photos are great inspiration too for how feminine a coverall like this can look when done in a color like white, pink and red.
Don’t feel like you need to be confined to solids with the Jean-Paul! You can easily add a bit of texture and depth with a classic subtle pattern or get a little funky with a larger pattern. The prints above show that both large and small scale prints can be really nice options. Keep in mind a large check like the top left will require more fabric that recommended in the pattern.

PATTERN DIFFICULTY
The Jean-Paul coverall has an Advanced intermediate rating for a few reasons. Honestly all sewing is made up of sewing, pressing, and trimming (if needed) one seam after another so if you take things one step at a time it’s really no harder than any other pattern. - There are 17 pattern pieces which is a lot to deal with and keep track of.
- There are a lot of topstitching (which is super easy once you realise you just need to take your time)
- I didn’t want to rate the pattern Intermediate and have anyone put so much time and money into it just to have a failed project.
Fabric: chambray Tissu Smati
SUGGESTED FABRICS AND NOTIONS
«Bottom-weight» woven fabrics: denim, twill, canvas, gabardine, medium weight linen or medium weight wovens such as cotton or wool flannel, chambray, poplin, sateen. Stretch wovens such as stretch sateen or stretch denim may also be used.
Optional: 35cm of matching lining fabric if your main fabric is too thick to line the front pockets.
