New pattern: the Jim overalls

If you love dungarees, you will love Jim.

Jim is a semi-fitted overalls featuring a button fastening and slanted pockets along the front and patch pockets on the back.

GOOD NEWS:

- The pattern is available in half-sizes

As you can see on the picture above, I was first inpired by the fisherman dungaree. I've always loved dungarees for women. I like men inspired clothes on women espacially when it has a workwear feeling. What I love about the fisherman dungaree are the long and thin straps. I also like its baggy style but I've decided to go for semi-fitted instead. There are already a few baggy dungarees' patterns on the market! Also, I love carrot pants and dungarees so I've decided to mix those two styles to end-up with a dungarrot.

One of the characteristics of the Jim dungaree is the button closure on the front. Most of dungarees have a side closure. I advice you to choose small buttons, from 10mm to 15mm diameter, first because the button fly width is designed for tiny buttons and secondly because if you are using big buttons it will look a bit childish. At fist, I designed Jim only as a dungarrot but after a few muslins I realized that Jim could work as a short dungaree for summer and also as a dress for every seasons. I have a preference for the pant version but I do like the others ;-)

What's your favorite version of the Jim dungaree?

When working on the muslins, I was hoping Jim would look stylish and basic at the same time. A kind of basicool garment. I feel I have fulfilled my mission ;-), what do you think?

Which fabric to choose for Jim ?

The Jim dungaree can be made out of a variety of mid-weight fabrics: you can sew it in a cotton poplin or lawn, a stable wool fabric, a chambray, velvet, denim or even a faux-leather.

The Jim dungaree features a few technical points (button fly and front pleats) which make it a pattern of intermediate level. However,  If you have sewn normal zipper fly before, I think you will love trying this button fly. It's much easier and tere is a tutorial here to help you! Once you master these techniques, sewing the dungaree together is relatively easy. It is a great pattern for intermediate sewists who want to give themselves a challenge!

I can't wait to sew a new Jim, I have so many projects in mind. A light denim short dungaree, a velvet dungarrot, an hack version of the dress dungaree and so on...

I hope that you will like Jim! Get to your machines, your scissors and fabrics!
